The 2013 curriculum is designed to develop and balance soft skills and hard skills in the form of attitudes, skills and knowledge. But in fact, the lack of focus on students' learning abilities affects learning outcomes. An inappropriate approach makes learning monotonous, students lose enthusiasm, do not master the material optimally, and lack the courage to provide answers and learning ideas. Reverse learning is an approach that gives students the opportunity to learn independently, creatively and actively in improving their learning outcomes. This study followed the Kemmis and Mc Taggart models which were carried out for two cycles through data collection techniques namely: observation, interviews, tests and documentation. The research objective was to improve student learning outcomes by applying a reciprocal teaching approach to thematic learning in grade 3 which consisted of 25 students. Research shows that student learning outcomes in thematic learning through a reciprocal teaching approach increase. The percentage of pre-cycle completeness scores was 44%, Cycle I reached 68% and Cycle II reached 84%. So it can be concluded that by applying the reciprocal teaching approach to thematic learning in Class III SD Negeri 60/VII Payolebar I Sarolangun Regency it has increased.
