This research aims to identify and describe the types of methods used for Indonesian
subtitles in Elemental Disney movies by using Peter Newmark's translation methods and
Koller's equivalence. A translation is acceptable if the target language reader feels the
same as the source reader. Therefore, this research focuses on legal and illegal websites
of Indonesian subtitles in Elemental Disney movies. Specifically the conversation and
dialogue in duration 16:20-38.27 between two main characters, Ember Lumen and Wade
Riple, in the Elemental Disney movie. This type of research is descriptive qualitative
research. The researcher found that the most dominant translation method is the literal
translation. Moreover, there are five categories of equivalence in both source data, and
the major type of equivalence is formal equivalence. Based on the data, the translation of
this film on the legal website exhibits no non-equivalence in the subtitles. In contrast to
illegal website translation, the researcher found eight data that included non-equivalence
categories. These non-equivalent features made the features fail to facilitate the
audience's comprehensive understanding of the movie through the translated results,
especially the audience of foreigners who are still learning the Indonesian language.
