Tittle : Students’ Difficulties In Listening Section of English Proficiency Test
( EPT )
This research aims to find out difficulties and the factors faced by students of UIN
Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi in completing Listening Section of English
Proficiency Test (EPT) held by the Language Center of UIN Jambi. The method
used in this research is a qualitative with case study method. In this research, the
researcher employed interview, documentation and observation to collect the data.
The subject were eighth semester students of UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi
who experienced the EPT Test. The researcher find out that the respondents
considered Listening section of the EPT Test is the most difficult part of the test.
The difficulties faced by students are divided into two categories: internal and
external factors. Respondents' difficulties in answering the EPT test, especially in
the listening section, there were caused by the following five in internal factors: 1)
lack of vocabulary, 2) lack of practice, 3) unfamiliar vocabulary, 4) anxiety, and
external factor: 1) Noise.
