―Escape from Alcatraz (1979)‖ and ―Papillon
(2017)‖

In this research, the researcher analyzed two biographical-themed films
based on true stories about prison's life. The purpose of this research are to (1) find
the factors that make the main character have intelligence as depicted in the films
"Escape from Alcatraz" and "Papillon" (2) find the kinds of intelligence in the main
characters in the films "Escape from Alcatraz" and "Papillon". Researcher uses
descriptive qualitative research methods as research designs. Technique of data
collection used is documentation. The data of this research are all videos,
conversations, articles related in the film. Researcher used theories from Ryan
Cooper and Howard Gardner to answer problem statements. The results of this
research can be concluded that there are similarities from the basic intelligence
factors in both films, namely each has similarities in Memory and Perception, but
the character Frank Morris in the film "Escape from Alcatraz" was superior to Logic
and Language. While other research results show that as many as eight kinds of
intelligence according to Howard Gardner, there are only three kinds of intelligence
that are the same in both films such as; 1) Linguistic Intelligence, 2) Visual-Spatial
Intelligence and 3) Body-Kinesthetic Intelligence. In addition, in the film
"Papillon" there are five kinds of intelligence such as; 1) Linguistic Intelligence, 2)
Visual-Spatial Intelligence, 3) Body-Kinesthetic Intelligence, 4) Interpersonal
Intelligence, and 5) Intrapersonal Intelligence.
