Tittle : The Effect of Using Inquiry Method in Writing Descriptive text in

the Eight Grade Students at SMPN 1 Muaro Jambi
The aim of this research is to find out the effect of using inquiry method in
writing descriptive text in the eight grade students at SMPN 1 Muaro Jambi. This

research was quantitative research and it was conducted by using quasy-
experimental design with nonequivalent control group design which two classes as

experimental class and control class. The result of this research shows that there
was significant effect on students’ writing after being taught through Inquiry
method. This could be seen from the T- test result which showed that the students
the mean score of pre-test in experiment class brainstorming strategy was 43.51
and the mean score of post-test 78.62. Meanwhile, the mean score of pre-test in
experiment class use word wall strategy was 43.06 and the mean score post-test
was 69.34 Both of class from pre-test and post-test score got a normality and
homogeneity data with the significant (0.05) . In the value sig (2-tailed) was 0.000

which was lower than 0.05 showed that t of t-obtained was 5.847 Meanwhile, the t-
table (tt) of df (56) in significance 5% was 2.144 and significant 2-tailed < 0.05

(0,000 < 0.05) . It means t- observation (t0) was higher than t table (tt), so the
alternative hypothesis (Hi) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected.
It means there was significant difference of Students’ writing among the students
who were taught using Inquiry method and those who were not
