Ria Ariyanti 2024 : Post–Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Experience

In The Movie My Girl By Laurice Elehwany

This thesis i am to analyzed post–traumatic stress disorder experience in the
movie my girl by Laurice Elehwany. The main objectives of this research are (1)
What kind of PTSD in my girl movie, (2) what are the symptom of PTSD in my girl
movie, (3) what are the negative effect of PTSD in my girl movie. This study used
qualitative research design utilizing a descriptive methodology. This research used
psychology literary approach and uses three theories that are for the kind of PTSD,
the researcher used the theory by Moore (2021), then for the symptoms of PTSD, the
researcher used the theory by Pervin (2005) and the last the theory by Smith (2011)
used to identify the negative effect of PTSD. The result of this research showed that:
(1) there are two kinds of PTSD that experienced by the main character named Vada,
that is normal stress to PTSD and Dissociative PTSD. The dominant kind of PTSD
happened in the "my girl" movie scene was dissociative PTSD because in the movie
scene it always showed Vada's behavior and Vada's emotional level changing. For
example, Vada is irritable, sensitive and very secretive about herself. (2) The
symptom of PTSD showed by the main character named Vada in My girl movie are
childhood trauma and lacking support from family and friends. (3) the negative effect
of PTSD showed by the main character named Vada in My girl movie are losing
interest enjoying activity and eating disorders which shown by two scenes which
show that Vada prefers to be alone and is not too enthusiastic about eating.
