This research analyzes speech acts and directive meanings expressed through figurative
language in the movie The Incredibles 2, it has a lot of command directives that have never
been studied before and since it‟s a popular chritsmas movie for kids adults and teenagers
today. Many of them then set an example for their kids in their. The study is based on Austin‟s
theory (1962) concerning locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts, and Searle‟s
classification (1979) which divides illocutionary acts into assertives, directives, commissives,
declaratives, and expressives. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method, with
data collected through documentation by transcribing and selecting relevant dialogues, while
data analysis followed Miles and Huberman‟s model (1994), consisting of data reduction, data
display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the three categories of speech acts
were identified, with declaratives (25 data) emerging as the most dominant type, reflecting the
importance of authority and decision-making in the storyline. In addition, ilocutionaryused by
the parental figures, particularly in the form of directive speech acts, conveyed not only
instructions but also deeper values such as affection, responsibility, caution, and moral
lessons. These results show that speech acts in The Incredibles 2 serve as a medium for
communication, influence, and the reinforcement of family relationships.
