Title : The Use of English Podcasts on The Spotify Application
to Develop Speaking Skills : A Quantitative Survey of
English Students’ Perspective

This study aims to describe English education students’ perceptions of using
English podcasts on the Spotify application to develop speaking skills. The research
employed a quantitative descriptive design with data collected from 79 students of
the 4th and 6th semesters of the English Education Study Program at UIN Sulthan
Thaha Saifuddin Jambi. The results showed that students generally had positive
perceptions, with an overall score of 75.2% (Very good category). Students
perceived that Spotify podcasts were frequently used, easy to access, and provided
a positive learning experience. Compared to other methods, podcasts were also
considered more effective. In terms of speaking skills, students stated
improvements in fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. Moreover,
podcasts helped foster motivation, engagement, and self-confidence. Therefore,
Spotify podcasts can be seen as an innovative and effective learning medium to
support the development of students’ English speaking skills.
