to analyze data, Researchers use documentation to collect data, data sources are
taken from the film Coda (2021). Using Searle's speech theory (1979) to classify
Ruby speech into five categories: assertive, directive, commissioning, expressive,

directive (13), expressive (3), and commission (1), with assertive being the most
dominant (65.9%). This dominance reflects Ruby's role as a character who lives in
two worlds, the deaf and the hearing environment, which requires her to convey
information, explain, and confirm statements. Then (2) illocution function, Ruby
speech shows four functions: collaborative (32), competitive (7), convivial (4),
and conflictive (3), with the collaborative function being the most prevalent
