This study discussed the use of figurative language in the lyrics of selected
songs from the album Acoustica by Scorpions. Therefore, the researcher entitled
this study "Figurative Language in the Album Acoustica by Scorpions". The style
of language known as figurative language uses a different meaning from its basic
meaning, which is usually used to explain something that does not make sense to
convey a deeper meaning. Figurative language as an important element in
literature and song lyrics, adds beauty and emotional depth through deviations
from the literal meaning. The objectives of this study are: 1) Identifying the types
of figurative language used in the lyrics of the album Acoustica by Scorpions, 2).
Explaining the connotative meaning contained in it. The researcher applies
Perrine's theory (2017) to categorize the types of figurative language, especially
Simile, Personification, and Hyperbole, then uses Leech's theory (1981) to
analyze its connotative meaning. This research focuses on five selected songs
from the Acoustica album: Always Somewhere, Send Me an Angel, Still Loving
You, Wind of Change, and You and I. In collecting data, the researcher used
documentation techniques and the method used was descriptive qualitative. The
results of this research are: 1). Showing Nineteen figurative language data,
including Three Similes, Ten Personifications, and Six Hyperboles. 2). Then
found Nineteen connotative meaning data. The results of the study showed
Nineteen data of figurative language, including Three of Simile, Ten of
Personification, and Six of Hyperbole. Then found Nineteen data of connotative
meaning. The results indicate that Scorpions employ figurative language not only
for artistic expression but also to communicate deeper emotional messages. This
study contributes to the understanding of semantics in song lyrics and encourages
further research in literary and linguistic fields.
