Solehah, Iqqotus 2024 : The Main Character’s Psychopatic Behavior In The Bad Seed Film

This research analyzes psychopathic behavior in the 2018 film The Bad Seed.
Psychopathy is an antisocial personality disorder. People with this condition have no feelings
and emotions. They tend to be rude and reckless without feeling the slightest guilt when they
do something heinous. This research aims to analyze the symptoms and factors causing
psychopathic behavior experienced by the main character in the film The Bad Seed, directed
by Rob Lowe. The analysis only focuses on the main character, named Emma Grossman.
Researchers used Robert D Hare's theory about the symptoms of psychopathy and used J
Reid Meloy's theory about the factors that cause psychopathy. Researchers apply a
psychological approach. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. The data
sources in this research are all conversations, dialogue and scenes in the film The Bad Seed
which relate to psychopathic behavior. The data collection technique used is documentation.
The results of this research are that the main character has six psychopathic symptoms,
namely Grandiose, Lack of Remorse or Guilt, Lack of Empathy, Deceitful and Manipulative,
Impulsive, and Poor Behavior Controls. Then there are two factors that cause psychopathy,
namely Envy and Greed.
