Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aims to determine Students Perception on The Use of Instagram in
Learning English. The method used in research is quantitative, the rsearcher makes
observation, asked question and answer to students in using Instagram when they study or
communicate in English. The researcher conducted this research with students of UIN
Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, Majoring in English
class B and C of semester 4, total of 44 students. The researcher used data data collection
techniques with questionnaires after observing the Instagram accounts of class B and C
students. Based on findings. Students have a positive perception of the use instagram
for learning English. They stated that instagram provides and endless supply of English
content which enables them to keep practicing their English skill especially listening, reading,
vocabulary, grammar, pronounce and slank in English. Further, as students can learn English
from many ways in instagram, they can choose English content that they like and find things
that are not taught by their teacher in the classroom. The situation creates a stress free
language environment for students so that students are comfortable and motivated to learn
English outside school. Students also said their challenges, such as internet connection
problem, vulnerable to misuse data, inappropriate content and there are many ads in
instagram.
