ABSTRACT
Sasnia, Rosa 2023 : Figurative Language Analysis in Nevermind Album by
Nirvana Band

This research discussed Figurative Language in Nevermind Album by Nirvana Band.
That's why the researchers gave the title of this study "Figurative Language Analysis
in Nevermind Album by Nirvana Band”. Figurative Language often provides the most
effective way to express feelings emotionally to say what people mean rather than
statement directly. In a special sense Figurative Language in which there is style. Style in
language will affect the clarity of someone's figurative capture through beautiful words.
The purpose of this research was 1). To explain Figurative Language were found in
selected song lyrics in Nevermind Album by Nirvana Band. 2). To explain the Contextual
Meaning of Figurative Language in Nevermind Album by Nirvana Band. In this study,
to find out the types Figurative Language and Contextual Meaning, the researcher used a
descriptive qualitative design by referred to the theories of Hurford,et.all (2007) and
Chaer (2012) to answer the problem formulated. In collecting data, researcher use
techniques documentation. The technique used in analyzing the data in this study is a
descriptive technique. The results of this study are: 1). I able to do six songs and the are
six types of figurative language, they were Metaphor, Personification, Metonymy,
Hyperbole, Synecdoche, Allegory. 2). The Contextual Meaning of Figurative Language
there are Twenty-Three Data were used six songsin Nevermind Album. There were Eight
of Metaphor, One of Personification, Four of Metonymy, Four of Hyperbole, Two of
Synecdoche, Four of Allegory.
