Title : The Effect of Ice Breaking Models Activities to Teach English at (Senior
High School) SMAN 1 Tanjung Jabung Barat
This research aims to determine the effect of using Ice Breaking activities
on student learning outcomes in English subjects at SMAN 1 Tanjung Jabung
Barat. The research method used was quasi-experimental, with a non-equivalent
control group design. The sample in this study was 67 students who were divided
into experimental groups and control groups, using purposive random sampling
techniques. The data collection instrument in this research is short answer
questions, which consist of a pre-test and a post-test. The results of this study
showed that the average post-test score was 76.67 higher than the pre-test class of
56.67. Based on the results of the analysis carried out using the Wilcoxon test, the
result was that the sig (2-tailed) value was smaller than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05), so
that (Hα1) was accepted and (Hο1) was rejected. This means that there is a
significant effects on student learning outcomes after and before using Ice
Breaking. The results of the Independent sample T-test show that the sig (2-tailed)
value is lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05), and the t-test value shows that it is higher
than the t-table value (6.584 > 1.669) with degrees of freedom (df) = 65, then
(Hα2) is accepted and (Hο2) is rejected. This shows that there is a significant
effects between students who learn to use Ice Breaking and students who do not
use Ice Breaking.
