Title : “Students’ Perception on Speaking Anxiety to Communicate in

English at English Education Study Program”

This research discussed students’ perception on speaking anxiety to
communicate in english at English Education Study Program. The purpose of this
research is to know students’ perception of speaking anxiety to communicate in
English. This reserach used a Quantitative approach method in the form of a survey
technique. The data collection instrument in this reserach is a questionnaire. This
research involved respondents from class of 2021 English Students, there are 83
students, consisting of 28 students in class A, 29 students in class B, and 26 students
in class C. This reserach used Total Sampling, and the SPSS as a tool for analyzed
the data. The results of this research showed a negative response to students’
perception regarding speaking anxiety and obtained a mean/interval score of 3.42,
which is categorized as almost all of students experiencing anxiety in the “High”
level. The result obtained from this research namely students’ panic, anxiety, and
tension that occured when they have lack of confidence and knowledge for
communication in English. Beside that, students felt anxious when they faced formal
situations in class, and also students experience spaking anxiety when they felt fear
got the criticsm or evaluation from their lecturers or other students in class.
