Title : An Investigation of Listening Comprehension Difficulties
Encountered by Students English Education Study Program
Listening is an essential part of English as a foreign language, because by
having a good listening skill, they can communicate much better to each other in
fact, there are many EFL students encounter some difficulties in listening class.
This study is aimed at investigate the students‟ difficulty in listening
comprehension. The study used the quantitative method as an survey design and
the researcher used SPSS to analyze the data, In this case, the researcher used
questionnaire consisted of 20 items to collect the data and using total sampling by
enganging 66 students in the fourth semester of English Education Study Program
at UIN STS Jambi. The results show that there are variations in difficulties among
students regarding the difficulties realted to listening material, listeners and
physical setting. Majority of students (76.42%) had a category as “Very Difficult”
all the items listed in the survey obtained realively high agreement (difficulties in
listening material, difficulties in the listener himself or herself and difficulties
setting).
