In this thesis, there are several reasons why the writer chooses a literary
work, especially a movie. First, the writer is interested in studying literature about
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson friendship in Sherlock Holmes movie. Second,
this movie has a value/message to all people. Third, the researcher choose this
movie because Sherlock Holmes movie is a 2009 period mystery action film
starring Robert Downey Jr. as the character of the same name created by Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle. The main focus of this research are (1) to find out what
kinds of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson Friendship in Sherlock Holmes Movie
(2009) By Guy Ritchie (2) to find out what are the factors of Sherlock Holmes
and Dr. Watson Friendship in Sherlock Holmes Movie (2009) By Guy Ritchie.
This research uses psychological approach, qualitative research method, and
descriptive technique to analyze data. The data source is taken from scene and
dialogue in the Sherlock Holmes movie (2009). The result of this research, the
researcher found : (1) there are three kinds of friendship according to Lorraine
Smith Pangle theory, (2) there are four factors of friendship according to Beverly
Fehr theory.
