Title : Teachers’ Challenges in Teaching English at Eighth Grade

Students of Junior High School 37 Merangin

This research aims to find out teacher's challenges in teaching English in the
eighth grade of SMP N 37 Merangin. The method used in this research is
descriptive qualitative metod. In this research, researchers used observation sheets
and interview sheets in collecting data. The researcher found several teacher
challenges in teaching English in the eighth grade of SMP N 37 Merangin. These
challenges came from students, school facilities and from the teachers themselves.
The challenges include: lack of student interest in learning English, lack of basic
knowledge of students regarding English lessons, use of mother tongue when
learning English, school facilities such as a shortage of books as teaching
materials, teacher ignorance in technology and shortage of hours in teaching
language English.
