Title : An Analysis of Students’ Problems in Speaking
Skill at a Private Junior High School in Jambi

This research aimed to investigate students’ problems in speaking
skill. This research was conducted at SMP IT An-Nahl Percikan Iman
Jambi. The design of this research was qualitative method. The subjects of
this research were students of seventh grade 7 Hasan Al-Banna class
(HAB) & 7 Nusaibah Binti Kaab class (NBK) at the SMP IT An-Nahl
Percikan Iman Jambi. The total number of students was ten. The research
data were collected by using interview. The result showed that there were
two aspects of problem in speaking. First, linguistic problem namely, lack

of pronunciation, lack of vocabulary, lack of grammar. Second, non-
linguistic (psychological) problems namely, shyness, anxiety, and fear of

making mistake. The most emerging issue obtained in this research was the
lack of vocabulary.
