Education Students)
This research aims to determine the problems faced by students in speaking English at UIN
STS Jambi. In this research, researcher used qualitative method with a case study approach.
Through the method used, researcher hope to obtain complete and accurate information
based on facts that occur in the field. In collecting data, researcher used observation,
interviews and documentation. Based on the results of the data collection obtained, the
researcher found that there were two factors of problems experienced by students in
speaking English. The first factor comes from linguistics, namely the lack of vocabulary
which makes it difficult for students to express what they want to convey, the lack of
grammar causes students to experience difficulty and confusion in constructing sentences
and problems in pronunciation make it difficult for students to speak. The second factor
comes from psychology, namely students' lack of self-confidence due to fear of making
mistakes, low motivation to learn due to feelings of laziness, and frustration due to lack of
progress in learning and lack of understanding of the material presented by the lecturer.
The anxiety caused by public speaking can have some significant consequences, including
the fear of mispronunciation and forgetting what was previously learned results.
