Title : Students’ Difficulties in Writing English Essay: The Case
Study at UIN STS Jambi.
This research uncovers students’ difficulties in writing English essay. This
qualitative study explored the problems experienced by English Education students
in writing English essay. A case study approach was employed to gather in-depth
data from fifteen English Education students of UIN Jambi. Data collection was
carried out by interviews and collecting documents. The findings revealed that the
students faced a range of difficulties in writing essay, which were classified in three
themes such as: psychology aspect including lack of motivation and lack of
confidence, the need for more practice opportunities in writing English essay. The
students also reported struggled with linguistic aspect including grammar,
vocabulary and structure sentence when writing essay. The last theme of students’
difficulties in writing English essay in cognitive aspect. Which is related to
generating ideas.
