Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out whether or not there was a significant
effect and difference of using clustering technique in students’ ability to write
English recount text at MAN 2 Sungai Penuh. The researcher applied a quantitative
method with - quasi experiment with non-equivalent (pre-test and post-test). This
research data was taken using an instrument in the form of a writing test, which was
given at the beginning and end of the research. In analyzing the data, researchers
applied a paired sample t-test to find differences between students' performance in
writing before and after treatment. The researcher analyzed differences in student
performance between experimental classes and control classes using an
independent sample t test. The results of the paired sample t-test show that the 2-
tailed sig value is 0.001 < 0.05. The result proves that clustering technique is
effective to teach writing recount text to Senior High School student of MAN 2
Sungai Penuh. The result of the independent sample t-test show that the tailed sig2
is 0.001 < 0.05, which means there is a difference between students who studied

using clustering technique, and students significant who studied using non-
clustering technique (reading and translating from English/Indonesia).
