Abstract

"The phenomenon of oversharing on social media has become a contemporary communication problem that threatens individual honor and the social stability of Muslim communities. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of oversharing from the perspective of Surah al-Nur, verse 19, using the Ma'na-Cum-Maghza approach to formulate an ethical framework for digital communication in Islam. The research method used is qualitative, using the Ma'na-Cum-Maghza hermeneutic approach developed by Sahiron Syamsuddin, encompassing linguistic analysis, intratextual-intertextual analysis, micro-macro historical context, historical phenomenal significance, and dynamic phenomenal significance. The primary data source is Surah al-Nur, verse 19, while secondary data include Arabic dictionaries, classical and contemporary commentaries, and literature related to the phenomenon of oversharing.
The results indicate that oversharing is a contemporary manifestation of the spread of al-fāḥishah (the spread of falsehood) criticized in the verse. Historical analysis reveals that this verse was revealed in the context of the hadith al-ifk, which has structural parallels with the phenomenon of oversharing in terms of the speed of information dissemination, wide reach, and destructive impact on individual honor. The dynamic phenomenal significance of this verse is formulated in five dimensions: (1) digital honor as a fundamental right; (2) purification of intention in content consumption and production; (3) digital verification as an epistemological obligation; (4) digital protective solidarity as a collective responsibility; and (5) awareness of digital permanence and eschatological accountability. This study concludes that Islam has a comprehensive and relevant communication ethics framework to face the challenges of the digital era, where the principles contained in QS. al-Nūr verse 19 can be transformed into a practical guide to creating a healthy and responsible digital culture."
