"In an Islamic boarding school institution there is a leader or caregiver who is often referred to by the name ""Kyai"". Kyai is an important and decisive figure in the development and management of Islamic boarding schools. Based on the Grand tour that the author conducted at Pondok Modern Darussalam Sengkati Baru that, the number of students has decreased from year to year, even though efforts to improve the quality of the learning and education process continue to be carried out at Pondok Modern Darussalam Sengkati Baru. Such as the addition of facilities and infrastructure, a good teaching and learning process, relatively affordable education costs, and so on. The method in this study uses qualitative methods, this qualitative research is seen through an educational point of view through data collection instruments including observation, interviews and documentation. The subjects in this study were Kyai (leaders) of Islamic Boarding Schools, Director of KMI, Head of MA, Head of Junior High School, Teacher Council and Santri.
The conclusion in this study is that Kyai's leadership pattern in improving the Quality of the Learning Process is using the Democratic Leadership Pattern. The policy making process applied is agenda preparation, implementation and evaluation, while in an effort to improve the quality of the learning process Kyai makes strategies, namely, strategies in the Input stage, Strategies in the Process stage and Strategies in the Output stage."
