"This study aims to identify students’ wants in academic writing learning in
the English Education study program at Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin State Islamic
University Jambi. This research was conducted qualitatively through a descriptive
study design, and the writers chose seven sixth-semester students who had passed
academic writing learning. The writer collected the data through open-ended
questionnaires from a sample of seven students who had passed learning in
academic writing. The result shows that students want clear learning in text
organization, development, usage of formal language, and referencing in
academic writing learning. They consider feedback from the lecturer to be very
important, especially feedback in academic writing learning that includes clear
guidance and opportunities to improve learning. Students want a process-based
approach to academic learning with genre-based models and to employ
information technology, such as grammar checkers, a paraphrasing tool, and
academic journals. This study suggests that academic writing learning needs more
attention in response to students’ wants, including clear feedback, revision,
academic models, and effective technological integration in academic learning."
